4 Healthy Options at Applebee’s

With two-thirds of American adults overweight, many of them are becoming conscious of what they eat. Fortunately, more and more restaurants are listening to their customers’ demand for healthier food. One of these is Applebee’s, a neighborhood-oriented restaurant. With more than 2,000 restaurants, they are one of the largest chains in the world. In 2004, Applebee’s started developing meals that are less than 550 calories.

Here are several healthy options at Applebee’s you can enjoy with less than 500 calories including the side dishes.

  1. 9-ounce House Sirloin – This lean steak only has 310 calories with thirteen grams of fat, forty-four grams of protein and four grams of carbohydrates. Order this with a side of seasonal vegetables, which has about 70 calories, and you have a healthy meal with less than 400 calories.
  2. Weight Watcher’s Grilled Jalapeno Lime Shrimp – This dish comes with grilled shrimp covered in chipotle and lime and served with a black bean corn salsa, grilled zucchini, tomatoes, onions and red peppers on rice. This is a good balance of carbohydrates, fiber and protein with only 300 calories, four grams of fiber and twenty-two grams of protein.
  3. Lunch Combo Fiesta Chicken Chopped Salad – If you’re looking for light dishes, this salad fits the bill. It is made with chopped lettuce with black bean corn salsa, roasted red peppers and onions, tortilla strips, white cheddar and spicy jalapeño dressing, and topped with chimichurri-glazed chicken. Chimichurri is a sauce from South America made with chopped fresh parsley or coriander, oregano, garlic, olive oil, vinegar, and red pepper flakes. This salad has 360 calories, with four grams of fiber and twenty-seven grams of protein.
  4. Napa Chicken and Portobellos – This meal is made with grilled chicken breast topped with Portobello mushrooms and onions with a red wine sauce. It also comes with sautéed zucchini, mushrooms, roasted red peppers, red onions and crispy red potatoes. While is has more calories than the other meals, with 450, it has the most fiber, five grams, and protein, fifty-four grams, so you will feel extra full after eating it.

There’s no need to miss out on the fun of eating out with friends and family at Applebee’s. While most of their menu items are more than 600 calories per serving, these healthy options at Applebee’s and other light meals below 500 calories are just as appetizing and filling for those who want to eat healthily.
